'Acronyms' - An Embarrassing Story of Randys.

PLUS: I thought I might share an embarrassing story today.
You see we often get support tickets from people confused by the terminology we all use daily.
And to be fair, when we have been around a while, there aren't many terms we don't instantly know.
But to newer folks, some terms are just totally WHAT THE HECK?
So do try and remember that so as not to embarrass other newer folks as and when you know them all.
And yes, in the support desk we can quietly share a link to pages of acronyms to help learn some for those who don't know.
But first Randy's Embarrassment tale.
(To prove that everyone starts somewhere, And before they get successful or respected for their knowledge, even the best of us have our funny tales)
It was when Randy was first plucked from the ranks of top salesman, and given the title Team Manager.
(A position he had turned down on several occasions, as he liked being responsible for himself and his success. Not other people! - But that's a whole other story. Haha)
Let's keep this on acronyms and brief.
So - Sitting in one of his first management meetings, with Managers, Directors and the MD. A round table discussion on the month ahead, and what was expected with reference to company goals, and how that broke down to a team level.
And the MD turns to Randy and asks... "So as our latest Management team member Randolf, Have you done a SWOT analysis, and sorted SMART objectives?"
Why oh why come to me first (thought Randy)!!!
Well he looked the Managing Director dead in the eye and replied along the lines of:
"I don't think the special weapons police are needed, and I certainly don't have any DUMB objectives"
After the roar of laughter, The sales director threw Randy a rope by saying,
"Have you driven around your sales route for the month Randy, and if so, What's your plan?"
He told them what they had to work with, and how he'd ensure they hit the target and all of his team would get their bonuses!
He even broke it down to weekly goals and how he'd warm up the more difficult areas.
The MD looked around the room, and told everyone
"That was the best analysis he's heard for a long while!"
And that's when it was explained what the acronyms were.
'Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities & Threats'
& 'Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic & Timed' Objectives.
So yep, Sometimes we can be embarrassed by thinking we don't know something, only to discover it was really easy.
